White Water Rafting in Chiang Mai
Northern Thailand is mountainous and known for its majestic waterfalls, traversing through the raging and rugged Mae Taeng River with spectacular scenery at its backdrop is one for the book. White water rafting is one sport in Chiang Mai you shouldn’t miss. The untamed Mae Taeng River is the nexus of fun in Chiang Mai and beyond.
Trekking in Chiang Mai
Trekking is a popular activity in Chiang Mai province and in fact, one of the main crowd puller to Northern Thailand and surrounding areas. The main area for trekking around Chiang Mai is Chiang Dao National Park, a mountainous area with many waterfalls.
Whether it is a single or several days trek, is an option that suits your preference to discover the jungles and the hill tribes around Chiang Mai. A day trek can be done to stretch your legs with the challenging hike to see the panoramic view of Chiang Dao, the highest peak in Thailand.
Some trekking comes with a combination of elephant rides or bamboo river rafting for less walking, but the choice is yours if you want this combo. Most treks are suitable for all age group. For Trekkers protection all treks must be registered with the Tourist police. Our advice is to check with The Tourist Authority of Thailand (TAT) (Here) who have a list of registered Tour Agencies available.
Canyoning in Chiang Mai
Canyoning or known in the US as canyoneering is a relatively new sport in Thailand, but is fast gaining popularity in Northern Thailand for its absolute outdoor paradise for Canyoning.
Canyoning is repelling ones self down the waterfalls and also involves traveling down creeks or streams within a canyon by a variety of means including walking, scrambling, climbing, abseiling, swimming and “li-loing” (using an inflatable air mattress).
It will bring you on an adrenalin rush like no other. Get the experience of a life time adventure called canyoning. But Canyoning can be treacherous. There are risks associated with scrambling down uneven, slippery surfaces and abseiling in wet, cold conditions so we advise extreme caution.
White Water Kayaking in Chiang Mai
Kayaking seems to be good idea to explore the river which you can enjoy the panorama, enclosed by majestic scenery with a mountain backdrop. Kayaking in Chiang Mai can be quite amazing.
Flight of the Gibbon adventure tour in Chiang Mai is a unique zip line canopy tour through pristine, 1500 year old rainforest outside of Chiang Mai. 18 platforms, skybridges and lowering stations connect 2km of zip lines that take you through different layers of the rainforest canopy. Flight of the Gibbon is a ride through the rainforest canopy using a secure body harness suspended from a steel cable, which is strung between the ancient trees.
Why is it called Flight of the Gibbon?
Because it mimics the way gibbons navigate thru the forest and because Tree Top Adventure as a company is committed to the preservation and conservation of these magnificent primates. We contribute 10% of all profits towards gibbon conservation and other conservation projects.
Bungee Jumping in Chiang Mai
For a sheer “rush of adrenalin”, Bungee Jumping is definitely unequaled to anything on the planet. This is not for the faint –hearted, just thinking about it is foolishness! but for people who crave for white-knuckle action this thing is for you. Get your certificate of bravery to show-off to your friends. You can do it alone or with a partner and feel the wind as you plummet to the ground. This is an ultimate experience you will never forget.
Rock climbing in Chiang Mai
Rock climbing is one spectacular activity you can do in Chiang Mai. The “Crazy Horse Buttress” in Chiang Mai is northern Thailand’s best developed crag, with about 150 routes.
SLC climber Josh Morris is one of the main developers and runs Chiang Mai Rock Climbing Adventures. His sustainable development approach is well done in contrast to southern Thailand. A “taxi” takes you to and from the crag, where you find toilets, well maintained paths and benches with sunroofs for hanging out — a climber feels almost spoiled here. Chiang Mai is a nice alternative for travelers who want to escape the crowds and get a real view of northern Thailand culture.
Off Road Buggies – Chiang Mai X-center
Off Road Buggies is a fabulous off road adventure that will take you along the rugged jungle train of Mae Rim. Drive a powerful 2 seat off roader on a trek that will take you high into the hills of Chiang Mai. Starting from the carpark of the x-centre, you follow the guide vehicle along challenging jungle trails that will test your nerve and skill. There’s still plenty of time to take in some beautiful scenery, however, as for much of the journey. You’ll be driving deep beneath the canopy of a lush Thai forest giving you a view of Chiang Mai that few visitors ever see. The buggies are easy to drive but customers are advised that they must be licensed drivers and be comfortable using a manual gearshift.
